William Frank Howell
Durham
William Frank Howell, 86, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Carolina Meadows. He was born February 16, 1926 in Bronx, NY to the late Arthur E. Howell and Julia DeFeo Howell.
Mr. Howell was a veteran of World War II attaining the rank of S/Sgt in the Army Air Corps. He served as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 crew for 24 missions in the 487th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. He was credentialed as a Certified Data Processor, managing computer installations and applications for several firms in greater New York, most recently for Putnam-Berkeley publishing. He was instrumental in the growth of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (formerly DPMA). An active member for over 50 years, he held regional, national, and international offices. Formerly a resident of Hawthorne, NJ where he was a member of St. Anthony RC Church, he retired to Durham in 1996 with his late wife, Eileen and joined Holy Infant parish.
He is survived by four daughters, Susan Brunssen and husband, Fritz of Durham; Diane O'Reilly of Torrington, CT; Catherine Howell and partner, Hannah Buzby of Bradford, MA; Eileen Banka of Mt. Laurel, NJ; grandchildren, Katrina Morris and husband, Sammy, Regina Brunssen, Terrance and Meghan O'Reilly; great-grandchildren, Carly Burnette, Alana Morris, and Annelena Brunssen.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11:00 AM Monday, April 23, 2012 from Holy Infant Catholic Church with Father David J. Devlin, OSFS presiding. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church on Monday from 10:30 – 11:00am before Mass.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the NC Children's Hospital, www.ncchildrenspromise.org or Catholic Charities, 902 Broad Street, Durham, NC 27705.
