In loving memory of Betty Vollmer, 69, of Bunn, who died peacefully Thursday morning, surrounded by her family.
Betty was the daughter of the late Russell Whalen and the late Frances Bullington Whalen.
The funeral mass will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Catherine's Church, Wake Forest.
The family will receive friends at all times at the home, 300 Mullen Rd., Bunn.
Betty is survived by her husband, John; son, Russell; daughters, Helen, Jessica and Joy; and eight grandchildren.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to: Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, which is a meaningful organization to the family. Their address: P.O. Box 448, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

I read the wonderful article about Betty in today's News & Observer. I had not previously heard of her passing. Please accept my condolences and prayers for your family. I remember her warm personality when speaking with the two of you at AGR events and once at the farm. The N&O article captured her love for her family, others and the farm. God bless you.

Dear John & Family, We were so sorry to hear of Betty's passing. She was such an amazing person, so warm,kind, truthful,honest, loving, I could go on and on. I feel so lucky to have had her in my life, if only for a short time.Lets all remember the good times and all the fun we had together, thinking of Betty with a smile. Dear John, Russ, Helen, Jessica and Joy - My heart goes out to all of you. I feel so blessed that I got to spend some time with Betty last year - it reminded me of what a profound effect she had on my life. I am overjoyed that she is at peace now. Prayers from Carmel to my family in Bunn.

Dear John and family, my deepest sympathy to all of you. Rarely a day goes by that I do not think of the summers of '72 and '73. Betty was a great positive influence on my life.
