Muriel G. Roll passed away peacefully Friday, October 5th at the DuBose Center in Chapel Hill. She was the daughter of Gertrude and Albert Gold and was born on November 27,1927, Brooklyn, New York.

Muriel is survived by her children, Lise Roll-Pettersson and husband, Hans Pettersson of Nykoping, Sweden, Leif Roll and wife Ginia of Bloomington, Illinois, William Roll lll and wife Jenny of Brewster, New York. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, David, Martin, Jensen, Giles, Georgi, Annika, and Anders.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, William G. Roll Jr., PhD, her brother Theodore B. Gould and his wife Helen C. Gould.

She obtained a B.A. from Hunter College in New York City, 1948. She also took graduate classes at Columbia University, University of California at Berkeley, All Souls College Oxford England during the 50's, and took courses in the 1970's-80's at both the University of North Carolina and Duke University. In 2007, at the age of 79, she was awarded a Masters of Arts degree in English Literature from Duke University. Muriel continued her studies at Duke through the spring of 2018!

Muriel participated in the docent program at Durham's Nasher Museum of Art where she volunteered for several years.

Muriel will by missed by many and always cherished. A celebration of her life will be held in New York over the Easter Holiday weekend.
