Ms. Barbour, Ryan and extended family. I am just learning of your recent loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to each of you. I knew Ricky through his work as a safety professional. His commitment to the safety of others and his sense of humor are the two things I most fondly recall. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Hello from Sharon Prince

I use to work with Ricky at Dorothia Dix Hospital and I always remember him and sometimes use his saying "you're in there like a hair in a biscuit". He was so much fun and would keep you laughing always. Even though I have not worked with him in a few years, he will still be missed. My deepest sympathy and prayers to Rickey's family. Always Sharon Prince.

I worked with Ricky in the State Office. I always enjoyed looking at his "collectables" he kept in his office because we pulled for the same race car driver! Having just lost my husband in less than a year ago, I know the sadness you are experiencing right now. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time.

Dear Barbour Family--Ricky was so proud of his family---you could feel the love in his voice and hear the pride in his words in the many stories he told about you all. Diane I enjoyed meeting you when you traveled with Ricky to Wilmington. I know you will miss him so much. VR has benefited tremendously from his knowledge and passion for health and safety in the workplace and of course he loved the fire dept! I am very grateful to him for all the support he has given me in the Wilmington VR office. My sincerest condolences to you all and my prayers are with you.

My deepest condolences to the Barbour Family. Ricky was the safety officer for my agency and a dear personal friend as well. A few years ago, he went far beyond the call of duty to assist, guide and reassure me with a potentially dangerous workplace situation. I am eternally grateful and shall forever miss him.

Ricky was dedicated to Workplace Safety & was in our VR Kinston office just a couple of weeks ago making sure we had our safety doors. More than that he was a welcome site and a good friend. He always spoke highly of the family he loved so much.
My thoughts & prayers are with you as you face the difficult days ahead... I am so sorry.

Mr. Barbour was fine gentleman. Humorous, but serious about safety. He made a great contribution to the safety of state employees and members of the public. (He helped me teach my son about safe driving and it stuck in my son's mind during a recent ice storm and he remembered to keep his speed down and to turn into the skid...saving him from an accident). Godspeed to the Barbour family.

To the Ricky Barbour Family: I am a new employee with the DHHS/VR and had only met Mr. Barbour twice. During those two encounters, it was evident to see how fond of his family he was and very passionate about his work. It did not take me long to figure out that he was a well rounded 'good ole boy' who I am sure will be greatly missed not only by his family, but his community as well... Lifting this family in prayers that God will give you peace and comfort during this time. God Bless.

February 7, 2011

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. Ricky was a very special person to the VR agency. He helped me numerous times in the Fayetteville VR office to deal with personnel issues and safety issues. It is so difficult to believe that he has made his final transition in in just the early afternoon of his life.
