Scott Gad Obituary

Scottie was born in El Paso, TX, the son of Leonard and Norma Jean Gad.
He grew up and spent most of his life there. He graduated from S.F. Austin High School in El Paso, TX and Texas Tech University. He worked as an engineer for a number of firms (Billy the Kid, Holguin & Associates, Slumburger and Southwest Transit Mix), but spent most of his working life as a science and math teacher for the Ysleta and Canutillo school districts in El Paso, TX.
He was a dedicated son and helped care for his mother, Norma Jean Gad, keeping her in her home with the last of her dogs until her death in 2007, shortly after he retired from teaching.
Scott spent two years after retirement touring the U.S. in his RV until his disease forced him to relocate to Carrboro, NC, where his elder brother and family could care for him. He was a good man and a good uncle and a loving caregiver to his rescue dog, Bonnie.
Scott is survived by his brothers, Shayne of Cary, NC, Chris and his wife, Rosa of El Paso, TX, nieces, Samantha, Katina of Raleigh and Alexandra of San Antonio, TX; and nephews, Jake of Raleigh and Ethan of El Paso, TX and his sweet Bonnie.
Scott has gone to join his beloved mother and all the little animal friends that they loved and passed before him. There will be a memorial service in El Paso on May 8th. Scott’s ashes will be intered next to his mother in El Paso.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to either the Humane Society of El Paso or the SPCA of Wake County.

I followed Scott's travels and events on his blog. I was saddened to hear about his passing. Although I did not have the privilege to meet him, he inspired me to follow my dreams towards fulltiming. He never seemed to give up or be daunted by circumstances. Bonnie lost a good dad. Rv-dreams and his family lost a good guy. We all did. Scott will be missed.

I met up with Scott and Shayne, and of course Bonnie (dog) in Texas for lunch last September. We had conversed via e-mail and phone since his illness began.

I came to know a beautiful man filled with life, love for people and his family. I feel empty knowing he has passed on, but so glad that I got to know him. I have lost a friend!

Scott was a fellow member of the RV-Dreams family. We first started corresponding to help him choose a peaceful campsite in NC near where he was receiving treatment. Although we never met, I am deeply saddened to hear this news. I will continue to keep Scott and his family in my thoughts.

I did not know Scott, except fpr his posts on the RV-Dreams.COM website. I am very sorry to hear this news, and I pray for his soul, and even more for his surviving family. These are the hardest things that can happen to any of us in this world, and there are no words that can ease the pain. Please remember that there are people you don't even know who care, and are grieved as you are. That doesn't make it any easier, I know, but at least I can say that Scott's life sent out ripples into the world that have had an effect farther than you can ever imagine. God rest his soul....
