I got to know Bill Schmitt only recently, in cyberspace, as he provided huge assistance to me on a handheld computer programmers bulletin board over the last few months. He spent hours, free of charge, writing a "DLL" to help me "do some stuff" I was needing to do for my software on the Windows Mobile operating system.
But even in such a distant setting, Bill's wit, kindness and generosity came through. He was huge asset to our developer community, and we'll miss him greatly. Words cannot express my feeling of sympathy for his family.

I really will miss Bill. I first met him through xjbikes.com but since we lived only about 15 minutes apart he became a good friend. He was the kind of friend that no matter how long you had known him, whether months or years, you felt like you had known him all your life. Nothing I can say can assuage the anguish of his family. He made a lasting positive impact on his friends, his church, his co-workers, the online xjbikes.com community, and most importantly on his family. My deepest sympathy to Sandra, Beth and Steven who must go on without him. I pray that the Lord of heaven will give you peace and comfort in your time of suffering.

My deepest condolences at your loss. Words seems so empty in these times of great sorrow. Even though I can't be there to offer my shoulder to cry on or hug to comfort you, I pray that our Lord holds you tight each night and comforts you with His peace and love...

Sandra, Beth Steven, I know there is nothing I can say to relieve the grief you are feeling. I only knew Bill through the XJbikes forum and he reminded me of my father. I took an instant liking to him. I believe my uncle said it best when speaking of my own father after his passing:
"Weep not in grief that he is gone, but rejoice that he was."
All our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Bill was a generous man to his fellow riders, offering time and information and love of riding to assist others freely. Having communicated with him by email, it had been my hope to visit and meet him in person. Alas, it seems I will have to wait awhile. I can only conclude that his kindness will be sorely missed everywhere he used to be. I am deeply gladdened to know I will be seeing him eventually.

Bill was a important part of our XJ bike community, his generosity and willingness to help others will be missed. We conversed many times over the internet helping each other solve problems. Though we only met two times he had made a great impression on me, I am deeply sorrowed by his passing and will miss him. The world needs more people like Bill.
