Jewell Lamm Thompson

Born April 16 1926

Mama decided to go be with her Lord, and His glory, on June 30, 2014.She was born in Nash Country and raised in Johnston County. Jewell married Elbert M. Thompson on Jan. 14 1947, who passed away in 1978. She supported her family at home where she raised two children. As an active member of Lawndale Baptist Church for over 55 years, she found joy and friendship through those years. Jewell loved the adventure of travel. She endured living among a house divided between NC State, UNC, Western Carolina, and East Carolina, and somehow could remain neutral and a fan of all when necessary. She was proud of all her "college kids". And we will miss her famous pecan pies and collard greens.

Jewell is survived by her children, Fred Thompson, of Raleigh, Robin Tilley of Morehead City, with her husband, Brooks. Her grandchildren, Laura Wilkerson of Durham, and Hunter Tilley of Morehead City, and great grandchild, Carter Bailey Wilkerson, of Durham. All held special places in Jewell's heart. Her extended family of nephews and nieces, and great nieces and nephews and sister-in-law were always a comfort to her.

Funeral will be at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, Friendly Ave. at 4:00pm Wednesday July 2, 2014. Visitation will follow. Graveside, at the Thompson Family Cemetery, Johnston County, Steven's Chapel Road, at 11:00am, July 3, 2014.
