Spring Hope

Helen Melvin Cone, 90, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on July 17, 2014. Helen was born November 12, 1923 in Goldsboro, NC to George Herbert and Anne Haig Melvin. After moving to Spring Hope she married Worth H. Cone and lived more than 75 years in the Gold Valley Community near Spring Hope, NC.

Helen was a lifelong member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church where she served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher and on the Board of Deacons. She loved her church and in her later years donated her handmade quilts to the church every year to raise money for missions. Sewing was her passion and she showed her love for the Lord through this incredible gift as she skillfully crafted and quilted for many hours each year. Her professional career also included sewing as she was employed by Devil Dog manufacturing Company in Spring Hope and Zebulon for 48 years. At her final retirement, in 2000 at age 77, Helen was the longest tenured employee for the company, having served in many supervisory positions including Assistant Plant Manager in Spring Hope. Helen devoted the next 10 years of her life providing Home Health Care for elderly people in need of her loving care. Her compassion and love for others in need was exemplified through this service and the many other ways she donated her time and talents in service to the Lord, her family, and the many friends she developed over her life.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Worth H. Cone, a son Worth Frederick Cone, Grandson Christopher Brinson, her parents George Herbert and Anne Haig Melvin, and six sisters including Doreen Perry, who raised her following the death of their mother at age five. Surviving are her son Ricky Cone and wife Gail of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren Joel Cone and wife Terri of Kingwood, Texas; Brent Cone and wife Jennifer of Spring Hope; Stephanie Laing of Brooklyn, NY; Mark Cone and wife Rebecca of Spring Hope; Robyn Reynolds and husband Ron of Spring Hope; and Allyson Wilson and husband Ryan of Cumming, GA. In addition she is survived by seventeen Great Grandchildren, two Great - Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Cornerstone Funeral Home, Nashville, NC on Saturday evening, July 19, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and anytime at the family residence at 547 Frazier Rd, Spring Hope. A celebration of Helen's life will be held at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, Zebulon, NC on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Cameron Currin officiating. Interment at the Cone Family Cemetery on Frazier Road will immediately follow the service.

Flowers are accepted and memorial contributions can be made to Pine Ridge Baptist Church.
