Dale E. Kay
Dale E. Kay, 77, died October 20, 2011. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI on January 17, 1934 to Russell and Mabel Kay. Dale retired in 1992, from the CDC after a distinguished public health career in the immunization and STD fields. He worked in 9 countries and 10 states and was proud to have been a part of the Smallpox Eradication Program. Dale loved to scuba dive, snorkel and fish as well as spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Kay; sons, Anthony and Timothy Kay; daughters, Debra Schoeninger and Genevieve Dyson; grandchildren, Bridget Huyett, Ben Schoeninger, Lauren Dyson, Oliver Dyson, Lindsay Kay and Anthony Kay, Jr.; great granddaughter, Rylie Copeland; brother, Russell Kay; and sisters, Marilyn Robertson and Connie Grieser.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607; CDC Foundation, Advancement Office, 55 Park Place, Suite 400, Atlanta, Georgia 30303; or SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC 27603.
