Jonathan Llewellyn Beal, most recently of Chicago, IL, 37, beloved husband, brother, uncle, friend, and son passed away after taking a fall on Friday, December 6, 2013.
Jonathan was born November 27, 1976 to Ann Dickinson and Harley J. Beal in Greensboro, NC and grew up on the campus of Chatham Hall in Chatham, VA. He embraced the freedom, creativity, and connection to nature that this small town allowed. His annual event "the Haunted Woods" was a major attraction at the school. He attended Woodlawn Academy in Chatham, VA; Sacred Heart School in Danville, VA; and George Washington High School in Danville, VA. He received a BS from Wheaton College in Norton, MA, where he was a Balfour Scholar and a founding member of the rugby team. He was inspired and fascinated by the importance of the law in bringing order to our lives and received a JD from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Professionally, Jonathan worked on behalf of ambulatory surgery centers nationwide providing consultation on legal and health policy issues.
Jonathan married the love of his life, Carol Anthony-Beal, in Waupaca, WI in 2010. Jonathan and Carol enjoyed laughing together, relishing in the pureness and beauty of the first snowfall of the season, their cat, Ori, and beating each other in card games. He was a steady presence who loved the outdoors, was a fantastic cook, a loyal and generous friend and the best uncle a child could ask for. Jonathan was deeply loved and admired by so many and will be dearly missed.
An avid Carolina fan, Jonathan had a quick wit, a bright spirit, and a unique ability to put everyone at ease even in difficult and stressful situations. He had a passion for helping others enjoy the opportunities of life fully and he volunteered for several years with the Special Olympics. He loved hiking with friends and family on Mount Le Conte in the Smoky Mountains.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Anthony-Beal, originally of Waupaca, WI; his mother, Ann Dickinson Beal, of Hillsborough, NC; his father, Harley J. Beal of Elizabethtown, KY; his sisters, Madeline Corbin-Beal of Laurel, MD, Molly Beal Toda of Kernersville, NC and Grace Beal of Nashville, TN; his niece Mildred Corbin-Beal and his best-friend and nephew, Walter Corbin-Beal of Laurel MD. He died too young.
A visitation will be held on Saturday December 14th from 9-12 at Clements Funeral Home on Churton Street in Hillsborough, NC. Services will be at Saint Matthew´s Episcopal Church in Hillsborough, NC at 12:30. Memorial donations are welcomed in Jonathan´s name at either the Special Olympics or Friends of the Smokies.
