Luka Fisher Obituary

Luka Charlie Fisher

Durham

Luka Charlie Fisher, nearly 21 months, died Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at UNC Hospitals. Luka was born in Orange County, the son of Zachary Parker Fisher and Julia Conrad Fisher. He was preceded in death by his brother, Maks Gerard Fisher.

In addition to his parents, Luka is survived by his sister, Maia Grace Fisher; grandparents, Dennis and Marie Grazyna Conrad, Charlie Fisher and Stacy Parker-Fisher; uncles, Isaac Fisher and Seth Fisher (Audrey Paquet).

Luka was known as #LukaTheLion in honor of his bravery, brilliance, beauty, and strength. Born with a very rare primary immunodeficiency disease that may be unique to him, he fought his entire life with grace and a smile. Luka was cared for by Dr. Philip Roehrs and the UNC Hematology and Oncology team. He received a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated anonymous donor this summer.

Luka lived most of his life enjoying cars, soccer, applesauce, nursery rhyme videos, books, playing with his sister, dancing, medical equipment and asking us for "more please." He died peacefully, surrounded by his lion's pride circle of love, as he was supported by family, friends, and health care providers.

A Tar Heel born and bred, Luka was a life-long resident of Durham, NC and member of the YMCA and Durham Public Library.

A funeral service was held at United Church of Chapel Hill with Rev. Richard Edens officiating. Burial followed at Moores Chapel Cemetery in Saxaphahaw.

In lieu of flowers, Luka's family asks all who have supported them during this journey to visit www.gofundme.com/LukaTheLion and make a contribution to what will soon become the Luka The Lion Foundation. These funds will benefit other young children, who, like Luka, face rare diseases and fight them with grace and limitless courage.
