Charles Altmeyer died June 7, 2016, at home at Galloway Ridge, a Lifecare Community at Fearrington, Pittsboro, NC. Chuck was born in Evanston, Illinois, on November 27, 1925, son of the late John Godfrey Altmeyer and Edith Treloar Altmeyer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Louise Sass Altmeyer. He is survived by his wife, Marsha Ann Cates Altmeyer, his daughter, Vicki Lee Altmeyer, her husband, Allison Reams, brother Earl Altmeyer and his wife Lois and nine nieces and nephews.

Chuck grew up in Evanston with his four brothers, graduated from Evanston High School and then served in the US Navy with duty in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After college he had a succession of career moves working for Aplleton Electric, General Electric, Chandeysson Electric Company, where he worked for 17 years and served as President and CEO. Following at stint with Abex Industries, another ICI subsidiary, the Altmeyers moved to Mahwah, New Jersey where he founded his own company, Tec Tran Corporation, which supplied braking components for subway trains. Wherever he was based, Chuck avidly followed the fortunes of his beloved Northwestern Wildcats and Chicago Bears.

Chapel Hill became home in retirement where Chuck actively worked for Orange County Habitat for Humanity, serving on its board of directors. He continued to serve on the board at Rider University. After he and Marsha married they decided to move to Galloway Ridge at Fearrington. They enjoyed eleven years with good friends there, but also did extensive travel domestic and abroad.

A memorial service will be held at the Duke University Chapel, Durham, NC at 12:30 pm on August. In lieu of flowers memorials are invited to be sent to Orange County Habitat for Humanity, Chapel Hill, NC.
