Crawford, Gerry
Santa Barbara native and lifelong resident Gerry Crawford passed away on February 20, 2015 after a brief illness. Gerry was born in Santa Barbara on January 24, 1930 to Beatrice and Emmett Prescott, both Santa Barbara natives themselves. She was preceded in death by he adored husband, Donald (Busbie) Crawford. Married for 55 years, they lived a long and happy life in their darling Mesa home. Gerry's first job, while still in high school, was at the iconic I. Magnin. This early experience started a lifetime love and appreciation of style and fashion. She went on to a long career with local banks, ending, after many years, with Santa Barbara Bank and Trust.  Always an avid reader, one of her prized possessions was the library card she carried for 80 years. From the day in 1958 when the newlywed Crawford's drove up in their sporty Austin Healy, they lived for over 50 years in their ideal home. Gerry's home and garden, as everything else about her, was in perfect order and neat as a pin.  Her love of her home was only exceed by her love of animals. Over the years she had countless pets and provided food and water for neighborhood wildlife. Her whimsical yard was a haven for happily splashing small birds and giant hungry crows. Gerry was a fun loving and gregarious person ever ready for an evening out. She loved movies and could be seen dining at one of her many favorite restaurants. Her friends will attest to her warm and generous heart. Gerry was always there to help a friend and could be counted on as a tireless and sympathetic listener. Gerry has been a warm and comforting fixture in so many lives for such a long time. She will be greatly missed by family, friends and neighbors. Mrs. Crawford is survived by her daughter Kelly, and her beloved Persian cat Winston II. Her daughter wishes to thank the staff at Serenity House, along with Linda Prince and dear friends Adrianna and Arianna Ortega for being so kind and helpful to her mother. Anyone wishing to honor Gerry's memory, may donate to Serenity House.
