Annona Elizabeth Rochelle

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand mother, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at her home on June 22, 2014 and is now in the presence of the Lord.

She was born on December 8, 1922 to George and Mary Kreuter. She spent her childhood in Livingston, Illinois where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Rene.

Annona and Rene married on January 29, 1944 and had a beautiful life together for over 68 years. They first lived in Champaign, Illinois before coming to Santa Barbara in 1953 where they remained for the rest of their lives. Mom and Dad always thanked the Lord for deciding to move to Santa Barbara.

Annona's husband and family was her most treasured blessing. They had 8 children, 14 grand children, and 6 great grandchildren. Annona enjoyed camping and motor homing up and down the West Coast with her family and friends and many trips across the country to visit relatives.

Annona was employed at UCSB after her children were grown and was an active member of San Roque Catholic Church. A faithful servant of the Lord, Annona was a Eucharist minister for many years and member and Treasurer of the Sanctuary Guild, where her love of flowers and friendship surrounded her.

She enjoyed playing golf and tennis (a lefty whip down the line was her favorite shot) and she and Rene took many trips to Palm Springs as well as Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, and New Zealand. A whiz at numbers, Annona loved a good card game or playing Yahtzee with her children where she was usually the winner. She loved her backyard barbecues and family reunions at Bass Lake. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving because it was just about getting together and giving thanks.

Those who had the pleasure of being in her company were blessed by her beautiful never-ending smile and grace. Always kind and compassionate, she taught us to enjoy the simple things in life. Mom, you instilled in us your faith and love. You had endless support and pride in your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. You were always our biggest fan.

Annona is preceded in death by her beloved husband Rene and her infant sons Thomas and Douglas. She is survived by her son Rick, daughter Connie (Paul), son Robert (Marla), son Mark (Cheryl), daughter Jan (Eric), daughter Debra (Steve), her grandchildren; Lisa (Chris), Becky (Brent), Brian (Michele), Nicole, Mark, Jennifer, Nick, Aimee, Stephanie, Emily, Rachel, Lucas, Lillian, Larissa, her great grandchildren; Ella, Tyler, Ryan, Blakely, Mia, and Brian.

Mom, grandma, and great-grandma you will be forever missed but your love will be in our hearts forever.

Please join us at San Roque Church at 3200 Calle Cedro on July 12, 2014 at 10am for a celebration of life. A lunch reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Serenity House, 930 Miramonte Dr., Santa Barbara, CA 93109 or Hospice of Santa Barbara, 2050 Alameda Padre Serra, Santa Barbara, CA 93103, in her name. Thank you.
