Dorothy Knight Gibbons

Dorothy was born in San Francisco on May 8, 1928, the 5th and last child of George Reid Knight and Ivia Florence Robles Knight. She died on Sunday, August 18th 2013.

Dorothy moved to Santa Barbara in 1946 shortly after her graduation from Balboa High School in San Francisco. Over the years she worked at the Stork Shop on State Street and at La Petite Fashions in La Cumbre Plaza. In 1972 she went to work at Security Pacific Bank in Goleta and retired from there in 1987.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her second husband, George Edmund Gibbons in 1993. Also by her parents and sisters Vera Courtemanche, Mary Koslosky and Margaret Archer. James Collie Knight of Orange, CA is her surviving brother.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura L Prato of Phoenix, AZ and her son David R Prato (Karen) of Santa Barbara. Also by step-daughter Kathleen Selander of Santa Ynez and step-son Kevin Gibbons (Leta) of Benicia, CA. Surviving grandchildren include: Jill Ivia Laakaniemi of Oakland, Gina Louise Prato of San Francisco and Brandon Reid Marshall of Phoenix. There are numerous surviving nieces and nephews scattered across the United States.

Dorothy always like to sew and after retiring became an avid and talented quilter; almost everyone in the family has at least one of her original handmade quilts. As a member of Santa Barbara Coastal Quilters, she made many baby quilts as part of their charity efforts. She was also a member of the Elks Caravaneers and the Balboa High Alumni Assc.

At her request, there will be no services and her ashes will be scattered at sea near her beloved George.
