Don was born in Los Angeles, California. He joined the Army in 1954 and served two years in Germany. Don was married in 1958 to Mary Kealey from Pasadena. He was a manager in the grocery business for several years prior to working in the aerospace industry. He worked as a draftsman for Microdot and Kinelogic in Pasadena on various NASA and military projects.

Don moved his family to Goleta in 1969 and then to Santa Ynez in 1975. He worked at Santa Barbara Research Center in Goleta for 30 years as a draftsman, manufacturing engineer, and design engineer. The emphasis of his work during this time was infrared space satellite imagery of the earth for NASA and military projects.

Don enjoyed grape growing and wine making and started East Valley Vineyard in 1975. Together with his family, he made many award winning wines. He also acquired his pilot?s license in 1981 and logged 1300 hours of flight time. He enjoyed camping with his family locally and traveled extensively with his wife across the USA in their RV.

Don is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary and by his four sons and spouses; Mike and Marisu of Davis, Dave and Sharon of Solvang, Ken and Debbie of Santa Maria, Steve and Anne of Ventura. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Labine of Argyle, MN, seven grandsons, one grand- daughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held at the Old Mission Santa Ines on Friday, December 6, at 10:00 a.m.
