Sue Rapson, of Santa Barbara, passed away peacefully early Sunday evening at The Samarkand. Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Howard and Nelle Griffith, she attended Wheaton College near Chicago. After college, she worked as a journalist in Ohio and West Virginia, and later as a director of Christian Education in Detroit. In 1950, she and Ira Rapson were married, soon thereafter moving to Gary, Indiana where Ira worked for Inland Steel before taking a teaching post in Economics at Wheaton. They later moved to Madison where Ira pursued a doctorate at the University of Wisconsin and subsequently taught again at Augustana College (Ill.) before moving to Santa Barbara in the fall of 1964. Ira taught at Westmont College and Sue was a housewife who also took various jobs that included school teaching and program administration. Sue was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for nearly fifty years and gave avid support to mission work and higher education.
Her husband Ira passed away in 1993 and she is survived by four children (John, Debra, David, James), seven grandchildren (Sam, Hannah, Clara, Timothy, Jessica, Michael, Ben) and three great-grandchildren (Jacob, Ida, Cecelia.)
