Anne C. Hand, age 85, died October 8, 2013 in Santa Barbara, CA. She was born March 25, 1928 in Washburn, WI, the youngest of six children to Peter and Mary Volak, both of whom emigrated from Poland. Anne attended the University of Wisconsin for two years and graduated from Madison Business College. She was a resident of Santa Barbara for 38 years.

Anne had many occupations over the years: receptionist for Dr's Vingom and Lindsey in Madison for four years; Avon sales representative in Torrence and Santa Barbara for 16 years; managed the Mother To Be shop in La Cumbre Plaza and was a receptionist for the Santa Barbara Hearing Aid Center, the Goleta Chamber of Commerce and St. Vincent's school.

Anne also had many interests, loved people and enjoyed life. She was active in two choral groups, Rancho Santa Barbara and Encina Royale; was a participant in a Christmas Carole performance in Los Angeles, while living in Torrence; and was a member of Church Women United, Postvenidos, Family Service Agency; St. Raphel's Auxiliary, and three "Red Hat" chapters. She was also a member of the St. Raphel's parish since 1975.

Anne married Dennis K. Hand in a U.S. Army military chapel in Hanau, Germany, September 30, 1952. Upon leaving Germany, they moved to Sandy, Utah.

Our beloved Anne was a very caring and giving wife, endearing mother of three children, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by all those whose hearts she touched. Anne is survived by her husband, Dennis; sons, Barry (Trisha) of Tracy, CA, Kennan (Karla) of Eugene, OR, and daughter, Margo (Mark) Nance of Taylorsville, NC; two grand children, Shawn and Julia Hand; and one sister, Agnes Bratton of Marshfield, WI. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Karla Renee Hand.

Anne has requested no services or ceremonies and asks that family and friends be allowed to mourn and remember her privately and in peace. "Remember me with smiles and laughter because that is how I will remember you."
