Of Goleta passed away in the comforts of her own home surrounded by family, on June 23rd at the age of 80 after a brief illness.

Born in Hamilton, OH on October 18, 1933 to Ruth and Elmer Snoddy, Ellie, as she was known to most, grew up in rural Indiana and graduated from Springfield Township High School before graduating from Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati. After nursing school, Ellie and three friends headed west in search of career opportunities. She instantly fell in love with the beauty and charm of Santa Barbara and knew immediately that it was where she wanted to plant her roots. She was able to obtain a nursing job in the Operating Room at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where she would end up working for almost 40 years! Ellie met Robert Hutcheon at a 4th of July Party in Santa Barbara and the two were married May 15, 1959. The happy couple went on to raise five children in Goleta.

Ellie was an avid bridge player and a huge fan of Indiana University's college basketball team. Additional interests included travelling the world, reading as many books as she could get her hands on, gardening, volunteering and, of course, spending time with her children and 8 grandchildren. After retirement from Cottage Hospital in 1998, Ellie spent most of her time travelling and volunteering in the Santa Barbara community. She was a proud member of the Goleta Service Club and volunteered for many years at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital.

Ellie is preceded in death by her husband Robert, son Bradley and daughter Charlene. She is survived by daughter Sharon (husband Mike, sons Grant and Bryan), son Doug (wife Melissa, Sons Henry and Gavin), son Jeff (wife Melinda, daughters Skylar and Haley) and Bradley's daughters Sophia and Hana.

The family has planned a Celebration of Life for Ellie on Friday July 11th at 1:00 PM at the Cabrillo Pavilion Art Center in Santa Barbara (1118 E. Cabrillo Blvd Santa Barbara, CA 93103).

Donations in Ellie's honor may be made to the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara (601 W. Juniper Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93105) or to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Santa Barbara (509 E. Montecito Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93103).
