Of Solvang, CA passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13th, 2014 at the impressive age of 90.
She was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on November 24, 1923 to Agathe Hansen and Johan Otto Karlesson. She apprenticed as a seamstress in Denmark and married Kristian Winther in 1949. Less than two years later, they were sailing on a ship to America, where they moved around to various places in California and Hawaii with their three children.
Ingrid worked as a real estate broker for ten years in Hawaii, but her great love was for clothing and fashion. She was an esteemed, successful seamstress at the popular and upscale Bullock's Wilshire department store for many years. She loved fashion and was known to be stylish and well put together even at the age of 90.
Because of her deep love for the Danish culture, she and her husband eventually settled permanently in Solvang in 1981, where she remained ever since. She always considered Denmark her other home and would frequently travel back there to visit family and friends.
Ingrid was immensely strong, caring, and always loved a good party. Family history was important to her, and she often loved to tell beautiful stories about her family and the years she spent growing up in Denmark.
She will be greatly missed and never forgotten by her many friends and loved ones.
