Dr. Lewis C. Winters

Passed away on April 18 th, 2013. Lew was 72 years old. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Christina Holbrook-Winters and their daughter Callyn Winters, as well as his daughter Donna West and her children, Grant and Margot West.

Lew discovered his passion for psychology as a sophomore at the University of Delaware, received his masters from the University of Illinois and his doctorate in Social Psychology from the University of Delaware. Specializing in opinion research, communication strategy and the measurement of communication effectiveness, Lew's career began as Manager of Behavioral Research at DuPont in Wilmington, DE and ultimately Standard Oil Co of California (Chevron) in the San Francisco Bay Area. He received an Effie Award for Chevron's long running People Do campaign. As the "Gold Standard" of corporate advertising, it remains a case study taught at Harvard Business School. In total Lew applied his Ph.D. in Social Psychology for 48 years.

From 1973 to 2000 he was Adjunct Professor at the Graduate School of Business at Santa Clara University where he taught Marketing and Marketing Research classes to nearly 7000 Silicon Valley MBA students. In 1992 he received the Distinguished Adjunct Professor award at Santa Clara University. Dr. Winters was on the faculty at the Stanford Graduate School of Business where he taught Marketing Research.

After "retiring" from Chevron in 2000, Lew moved with his wife Christina to Santa Barbara and started a company together-Reputation Measures. Whether providing solutions for the energy sector or dominating the fantasy baseball league he commissioned 10 years in a row, Lew loved applying statistics and social behavior.
