Franklin Lloyd Obituary

Tom passed away at age 72 in New York with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born in Santa Barbara, CA, to Franklin Thomas Lloyd, Sr., and Florence Olive Crookham Lloyd. He attended local schools and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1958. A graduate of the 1962 class of University of California Santa Barbara, he served as Student Body President and President of the University of California Statewide Associated Students in his senior year. He continued his affiliation with the UCSB as an active alumnus. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1965, was admitted to the California Bar and had a long and very successful career in corporate law.

Tom was a man of tremendous faith, intelligence and thoughtfulness. He had a love of life, a passion for God and family, and a sense of service to humanity. He made a positive impact on friends, family and community. As a youth, he was active in Youth for Christ at the First Baptist Church, and led a Bible study group at SBHS. He served as Deacon at La Jolla Presbyterian Church in California and at Community Church in Douglaston, New York, where he also served as Chair of the Property Committee, and headed numerous fundraisers for church improvements as well as worldwide missions.

He was an astute and remarkable man who never lost his love of learning, exploring and adventure. He traveled the world - Africa, Australia and New Zealand, the Galapagos, North and South America, Eastern and Western Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii. He treasured river running trips with wife, Patricia, and family on the Colorado River in large rafts, Gray and Desolation Canyons in Salmon River rigs, and the Green and San Juan Rivers in Sport Yaks.

Nothing was more comforting in Tom's end-of-life illnesses than the love and devotion of his wife, Sally, and family, the unconditional love of his step-grandchildren, and his regular facetiming and skyping with family members.

Tom was preceded in death by his previous wife of 40 years, Patricia Diane Downie Lloyd, his college sweetheart whom he married upon graduation from UCSB. Survivors include his and Patricia's children, Franklin Thomas Lloyd, III, and Anne Margaret Lloyd; his wife of 10 years, Sara "Sally" Vescatel Lloyd, whom he met while attending Harvard; his step daughters Sara Regan (Tom), Claire Giangreco (Paul), and his step grandchildren; his sister Nancy Baird (Mel), niece, Marcella (Eric); his brother Fred, and children, Sean, Brin and step daughter, Lisa; brother Bob (Maria) and children Nicholas, Daniel, and Lisa as well as other nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will gather in June to hold a West Coast celebration of Tom's life!
