December 22, 1908 -June 13, 2014
Margaret our very talented and adventurous mother passed away on June 13, 2014. She was born and grew-up in the city of Swatow, Guangdong province, China, the daughter of missionary parents. She came to the United States to attend high school and then returned to China to study the language, literature, history and customs of that country. She returned to the United States because of the Japanese invasion of China.
She met our father Neil in 1935, and stayed happily married until his death in 1972. During marriage, not only did they raise five children, but also they collaborated to co-author 3 books: The titles of these books were "My Father Charlie Chaplin," "Act Your Way to Successful Living," and "My Dear Ones."
After Neil died, Margaret continued to write. She has authored in excess of 20 books. Several of these books have resulted in her being the recipient of literary awards. One of her favorite subjects was the people of China. She traveled extensively in Europe, the Soviet Union, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and China.
Margaret is survived by her sons Robert (Kelly), Peter (Sharon) and Frank (Charlene). Her daughter Margaret Mary, and youngest son Tom both pre-deceased her. She has six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
During her final years, she lived at home and was cared for by the Vargas and Lemus families, to whom greatest thanks and appreciation go for making Margaret's last years as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.
