It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Danny Signor. Sadly, after a 4-year battle with Alzheimer's, we say good-bye to our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and good friend.
Daniel E. Signor was born and raised in Santa Barbara, the son of Ugo Antonio Signor and Jennie Marie Signor (Bortolazzo), both of who preceded him in death.
Danny attended Santa Barbara High School and Oxnard High. It was while attending Oxnard High that he met the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Marilyn. Once married, Danny and Marilyn made their permanent home in Santa Barbara and had two daughters, Linda and Karen.
Danny was blessed with charismatic charm and personality. His smile would light up a room and his warm hug or strong handshake was always a welcoming greeting.
Danny loved living in Santa Barbara and he loved people! Once nicknamed the "Mayor of Santa Barbara," he had a true knack for making friends wherever he went. Whatever Danny set out to do, he put his heart and soul into! Always wanting the very best for his family and friends, he strove to work hard and volunteer his time to benefit others whenever he could.
Starting in the 1960's, Danny worked for Jordano's in one of their grocery stores as the manager of the meat department. At this same time, he became involved in the Junior Chamber of Commerce and volunteered his time towards the planning of the Santa Barbara Zoo. He eventually became President of the Santa Barbara Jaycees. Being very proud of his Italian heritage, Danny greatly enjoyed involvement in the D.B.'s and the Italian Boot Club.
After leaving Jordano's, Danny became a liquor salesman for the L. J. Morganti Company. It was at this time he decided that he would like to own his own bar. He bought Mel's Cocktails in downtown Santa Barbara, which he owned for 12 years. Operating Mel's came naturally as he grew up with a family history of restaurant/bar ownership. His grandparents were owners of Mom's Italian Village. Danny was also a partner in the Coast Village Grill Restaurant in Montecito. After his retirement in 1999, he became a starter at Sandpiper Golf Course.
Danny was proud of his commitment to serve the community he loved. During his retirement, he volunteered for 10 years as a Fire and Police Commissioner for the City of Santa Barbara.
Danny and Marilyn's favorite travel destination in life was Maui where they celebrated their 50th and 55th Wedding Anniversaries, along with 14 family members. Danny loved to see his family have a good time together!
Danny's true passion in life was golf - and what a great golfer he was! As a very active member and dedicated board member of Montecito Country Club for 40 years, he and Marilyn enjoyed many rounds of golf together and fun social times with their good friends. He loved the comradery and competition that came from a day on the course. He passed that love on to his grandson.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Signor, his daughters Linda Perreault, and Karen Collyer (Bill) and his grandchildren, Brandon Collyer (Chelsea), Cortney Collyer and Tessa Perreault. He is also survived by his sister Sandra Logsdon and sister-in-law Carol Rhoads (Dan) and many nieces and nephews.

I sure enjoyed our time together in the Santa Barbara Jaycees in the early 1980's. Dan was fun and an all around good guy.

Those of us who have lived and worked in Santa Barbara for many years know, or knew, Danny well even if we didn't see him regularly. He was one of the kindest most affiable men I have ever known and the Marino family cherished his aquaintance. We will miss his smiling face and boundless energy at so many functions and which was always a bright spot to look forward to.
