Santa Ynez - Joseph Garcia Monroy, 96, died Saturday, November 5, 2016 at his home surrounded by his daughter, his grandchildren and great- grand children.
Joseph was born in Pachuco, Mexico and migrated to California where he met and married Madeline Bernice Pina in 1948. They established their home on the Santa Ynez Chumash Indian Reservation with their daughter. Joseph worked for Augustine Sanchez, Brian Meyers at Meadowlark Ranch and for Anthony B. Dunn at Dunn School.
Joseph built a home for his mother in-law and his wife on the reservation and helped the tribe to bring in running water for residences. He was a Dodger 's fan, loved his Martini's and was known for being witty. He and his wife loved to play bingo.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife Madeline Bernice Monroy in 1986. He is survived by his daughter Antonia Flores (Joe) of Santa Ynez. He also leaves 6 grandchildren, Desi Zavalla (Nannette) of Santa Ynez, Joesph Paul Zavalla of Santa Ynez, Anthony Zavalla (Brenda) of Paso Robles, Nakia Zavalla of Santa Ynez, Takita Zavalla of Santa Ynez, Kaijah LaPointe (Scott) of Santa Ynez. He also leaves 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 11th at the Loper Funeral Chapel in Ballard. Burial will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
