Austin, Eleanor W.
Eleanor W. Austin, 92, of Danbury, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 with her family by her side.
She was born in Stamford, CT on March 26, 1921, daughter of the late William and Ella (Watson) Aussenhoefer. Eleanor was a long-time resident of Southbury and had achieved many accomplishments in her life. She was an entrepreneur and multi-faceted in the business market including: selling Real Estate, and owning a delicatessen and The Driftwood Housekeeping in Ontario, Canada. She also has bred Collies, enjoyed golfing, played softball in the Nutmeg Softball league in the 1940's, and was an artist. When she was 89, she added to her list of accomplishments; author. She wrote a book called "A True Story of Gerty"- Eleanor loved all animals. She had the innate ability to talk to them and they were drawn to her regardless of whether they were domestic or wild. Eleanor also enjoyed telling a good story to her friends and family, she had a magnificent sense of humor.
Ms. Austin is survived by her nephew, Michael Buckley and his wife Kathleen of Danbury. She is also survived by her niece, Barbara Buckley of Titusville, FL. She has several great nieces and nephews as follows: Kenneth Buckley and his wife Renee of Newtown, CT; Douglas Buckley and his wife Melissa of Georgia, VT; Colleen Buckley of Bethel, CT; and Justin Buckley and his wife Tracey of Bethel, CT. In addition, she is survived by the following great great nieces and nephews: Amy, Aaron, Kimberlee & Tristan Plude, Kyle & Christopher Buckley, Rachel & Megan Buckley.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that in honor and celebration of Eleanor's life that you perform an act of kindness for an animal in need; a small act she had performed so many times to so many animals that had passed through in her lifetime, or donate to Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County, P.O. Box 489, Wilton, CT 06897.
