Conboy, Mrs. Eleanor
Mrs. Eleanor (Kretkiewicz) Conboy, 85, of Cannon Ridge Drive, Watertown formerly of Sandy Hook, passed away peacefully Friday, October 25, 2013, at Paradigm Healthcare Center in Waterbury. She was the widow of Joseph A. Conboy, her husband of 65 years who passed away in May of this year.
Mrs. Conboy was born in New Haven, June 15, 1928, daughter of the late John and Pauline (Pietrusz) Kretkiewicz. She was a graduate of St. Stanislaus School and Boardman Trade School in New Haven. After graduation, she went to work at Burger Brothers a corset mfg company in New Haven, where she met her husband to be, Joe. They settled in Sandy Hook where they raised their family, were communicants of St. Rose of Lima Church, and lived for 35 years. She worked as a quality control supervisor for Ivan Sorvall/Dupont in Newtown, retiring after 20 years.
A devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and family get-togethers, as well as playing cards, board games and traveling. Whether at home or wintering in the Caribbean, guests were always welcome and a good time was had by all. Fun-loving and known for speaking her mind, people were naturally drawn to her and Joe and they were known to be inseparable. She and Joe lived a full and active life together touching many lives along the way. They are now again together forever.
She leaves three sons, Timothy Conboy and his wife, Pamela, of Woodbury, Danny Conboy and his wife, Betty, of Delhi, N.Y., and Philip Conboy of Southbury; a daughter, Laurie Wagner of Redding; two sisters, Catherine Comstock of North Haven, and Alberta Niedziela of Guilford; eight grandchildren, Candice Krueger, Benjamin Conboy, Diana Wagner, Bonnie Wagner, Sarah Conboy, Joseph Conboy, Rachael Torres and Kathryn Conboy; and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Kretkiewicz, and sister, Theresa Beirne.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday afternoon 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
