Lorenzo Paniagua, 96, of Danbury died surrounded by his loving family at his home on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Mr. Paniagua was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, February 16, 1918, a son of Antonio and Pascuala (Rivas) Paniagua. He attended schools in Puerto Rico and was a retired cement plant supervisor. He was a U.S. Army
veteran, attaining the rank of Sergeant. A resident of Danbury for the past 17 years, coming from San Juan, he was a member of St. Peter Parish of Danbury. He is survived by two sons, Miguel Paniagua and Tony Paniagua; two daughters, Carmen Paniagua and Leuda Cora; a daughter-in-law, Yolanda Paniagua; three brothers, Gilberto Paniagua, Victor Paniagua and Enrique Paniagua; four sisters, Angelita Paniagua, Carmen Paniagua, Nilda Paniagua and Andrea Paniagua; grandchildren Lorenzo D. Paniagua, Nelkis Paniagua, Audberto Rivera, Winston Dunlop, Leyda C. Cruz, Barbara Cruz, Esther M. Cruz and Raul Cruz; and great grandchildren Raul Cruz, Yanelie Mejias, Jeremiah Rosado and Robert Ashley; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter Church, 104 Main Street, Danbury. Interment will take place at the direction of the family. The family will receive friends at the Jowdy-Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m.
