Hawley, Sr., William R.
William Robert "Bob" Hawley, Sr., 89, a life-long resident of West Haven, husband of Harriet Gordon Hawley, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, died Monday, February 17, 2014, at the Milford Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in West Haven, July 16, 1924, a son of the late Frank W. and Helen Moran Hawley. Bob graduated from West Haven High School and enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving honorably from 1942 to 1946. He was a union electrician, working for M. B. Foster of New Haven for over 30 years. He enjoyed his work and took great pride in doing it well. He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church, a life-long member of the West Haven Elks Club, and a man who truly loved time spent with his family. Besides his wife Harriet, Mr. Hawley is survived by four sons, William R. Hawley, Jr. and his wife Charlene, of Bethel, CT, Paul E. Hawley and his wife Judy, of Uncasville, CT, Thomas P. Hawley and Roy E. Hawley, both of New London, CT. He also leaves four granddaughters, and four great granddaughters. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Surface Hawley, and his brother Frank Hawley. The funeral will be from the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, Friday morning, at 10:15, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Church, at 11:00. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 4:00 to 8:00.
