Richard Bradley Obituary

Richard "Dick" W. Bradley, Sr., age 74, of Bristol, CT, died on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Danbury, CT, he was the son of Wilbur L. Bradley and Florence M. Bradley. Dick graduated from Danbury High School and attended Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia. He spent most of his life in Danbury, lovingly focusing on his family and working at Leahy's Fuels for 35 years before retiring to move to Boca Raton, Florida. There, he remarried and worked for Synergy Gas. He and his second wife, Sandra, found a beautiful piece of property on Whiting Bay in Down East Maine that they developed into a lovely home and Bed and Breakfast. Dad loved meeting and welcoming visitors from all over. After he retired from Down East Community Hospital in Machias, Maine they left Maine and moved to Lakeland, Florida. When they were both diagnosed with cancer, in order to be close to treatment, they left behind many wonderful friends and their church, The Christian Temple Church, in Lubec, Maine. But true to the Disciples of Christ tradition, they found another wonderful church family at Bethany Christian Church in Lakeland, FL. Health issues necessitated that Dick return to Connecticut to be close to his family. Throughout his life, he was quietly proud to volunteer to help those in need. In particular, Dick was one of the original group of people that began the Dorothy Day Hospitality House (soup kitchen) in Danbury and spent many hours serving meals when it first opened. Dick greatly appreciated the care he and Sandra received from Dr. Shalini Muliparthy and the Center for Cancer Care and Research in Lakeland. He also appreciated Dr. Todd Alekshun and the Infusion Center staff at the Connecticut Multispecialty Group in Wethersfield, CT. Dick was predeceased by his infant daughter, Elizabeth Jean Bradley, his second wife of many years, Sandra Jean Parker Bradley, and his step-grandson, Joshua Barker. Dick is survived by his first wife, Jean Linke Bradley of Brookfield, daughter Lori Capri of Danbury, son and daughter-in-law Rick and Geri Ann Bradley of Bristol, daughter and son-in-law Trish and Pete Martinez of Gaylordsville, stepdaughter Brenda Gay Barker, and step son and daughter-in-law Mike and Leng Ie Gay. He is also survived by grandchildren Michael and Jayson Capri, Riki, Shaun, and Juli Bradley, Matthew, Noah, and Jacob Martinez, and Madison Barker. Additionally, Dick is survived by his brother and sister-in law, Rev. Robert L. Bradley and Elaine Bradley of Lexington, KY, and his cousin Susan Bradley of Milford, CT. Calling hours will be held at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division Street, Danbury, CT on Thursday July 14th from 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Central Christian Church, 71 West Street, Danbury on Friday July 15th at 10 am. An additional Memorial Service and Interment will be held in Lubec, Maine at a later date. Friends wishing to remember Dick are invited to make memorial donations in his name to the Sunday School Program at the Christian Temple Church, P.O. Box 190, Lubec, Maine 04652 or to the cause or organization of their choice. Information and online condolences at HullFuneralService.com.
