William Stevens Obituary

William (aka: Bill, Billy or Steve), age 82, passed away at Bethel Health Care on December 27, 2010 with his wife of 58 years, Bonnie, by his side. William was born in West Wyoming, Pa. on May 29, 1928, the second child of the late William John Stevens Sr. and Beatrice (Condon) Stevens. William attended West Wyoming public schools and joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War. William was prede-ceased by his parents and his younger sister, Ruthie. He was employed by Newark Stamp and Die Works, Newark, N.J. for 35 years retiring in in 1998 and relocating to Danbury. William was an avid fan of the Mets, Jets, Girls UConn Basketball and you could always find him watching a game or reading the latest stats in the newspaper. Besides his wife Bonnie, William is survived by his two sons, William John Stevens III and his wife, Cheryl of Kendall Park, N.J. and Kenneth J. Stevens and his wife, Patty of Bethel. He was a devoted grandfather to his five grandchildren, William John Stevens IV of Kansas City, Mo, Nicole Stevens of Harrisburg, Pa., Christopher, Katherine and Julia Stevens, all of Bethel. William is also survived by his sister, Betty Robbins of West Wyoming, Pa, his brother Kenneth Stevens of Duryea, Pa. and many nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his good friend, Scout. A memorial service will be held at St Mary Church, Bethel on Saturday January, 22 2011 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to your local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans or the charity of one's choice. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the Bethel Health Care staff and especially Sheila, Carl, Lori and Ana whose care and compassion made William's last days comfortable and allowed him to leave with dignity.
