David Oakley Obituary

Mr. David A. Oakley, Jr. 75 formerly of Waterbury passed away Saturday December 4, 2010 at the Kent Specialty Care Center. He was the devoted husband of the late Eileen Schebetun Oakley until her passing in 1998. David was born April 8, 1935 in Waterbury the son of the late David A. Oakley Sr. and Gertrude Waldorf Oakley. He was predeceased by his younger sister Frances Oakley Holder. David is survived by his two daughters, Chris Oakley Knaak and Kerri Oakley DesCoteaux. David had two son-in-laws that he considered his sons, Michael Knaak and Richard DesCoteaux. David's pride and joy was his growing brood of grandchildren: Chris Allen Oakley, Katherine Elaine DesCoteaux, Richard David DesCoteaux, Alysia Faith DesCoteaux, Monica Grace Knaak, and Stanislav Oakley Knaak. He was also anticipating the arrival from Moscow of another "adopted" grandson, Misha Morosov. Misha was not permitted the opportunity to be adopted, but David still considered him his grandson. David also had three great-grandchildren: Emani Manuel Oakley, Tres Freeman DesCoteaux, and Jenalyse Amari Oakley. David was born and raised in Waterbury. After his graduation from Crosby High School, he enlisted in the Army and served for four years. He married Eileen in 1960 and they resided in Clinton before moving back to Waterbury where they raised their two daughters. David worked for many years for Pratt and Whitney and later for various manufacturing companies in Waterbury, in the area of Quality Control. Upon retiring at age 65, he suffered a stroke and his health declined slowly over the last ten years. David was an active member of the Bunker Hill Congregational Church while he lived in Waterbury. He taught Sunday school for many years and enjoyed being a leader of the Jr. and Sr. High Youth Ministries. David loved spending time with his family; cooking dinner for a full table, taking his grandson fishing, slide shows and movie nights, taking the grandkids shoe shopping, playing "Go Fish" at the nursing home with his grandkids, and visits to his daughter's house for "a good meal". He will be dearly missed but his family is thankful that he is no longer suffering, that he has gone home to be with the LORD. A memorial service will be held at the Sherman Congregational Church on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of his family. There will be no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury 9 Holmes Avenue has care of arrangements.
