Carmine Lombardi Obituary

Lombardi, Carmine D.
Carmine D. Lombardi, 82, of Danbury, died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. He was born in the northeast Bronx to Domenico and Evelina (Mautone) Lombardi and attended Cardinal Hayes High School, Manhattan College graduating with a B.S. in Chemistry, followed by a Master's degree from Western CT State University. An educator, he taught organic chemistry for 26 years at Norwalk State Tech and continued to teach in his retirement years at Western Connecticut State University. He was quite athletic and was the assistant baseball coach at Norwalk for 25 years. He and Muriel, his wife of 59 years, moved to Danbury in 1955, a town where he'd spent many happy summers as a boy on his uncle's farm on King Street. He had belonged to the Knights of Columbus, was a Friendly Visitor to the sick and elderly, and helped many people along the way. He enjoyed dancing, traveling (especially to the ocean), gardening, PBS TV, word games, and watching his beloved Mets and UConn Husky Women's basketball. He had a calm presence, was devoted to his family and church, and had a good sense of humor. Staff from three floors of Danbury Healthcare where he was dearly loved, came to say goodbye, eyes streaming, on his last day and we will be forever grateful for the care he received there. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank, and his sister, Alfie. Surviving are his wife, Muriel (Dougherty), his four children, Maura, Christine, John, and Robert (Joanna), eight grandchildren - Miguel (Ruth) of Seattle, Mandi, Mia, Dan, David, Abbie, Emilia, Julia, and one great-grandchild, Alina, and his niece, Evey Johnson (Jay). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield. Burial will take place in Wooster Cemetery at the direction of the family. Friends will be received in the Jowdy Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Monday, October 27th, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury at the direction of the family. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 18th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001 or to the Salvation Army.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
