Vernon Wilson Obituary

Wilson, Vernon K.
V. Keith Wilson, husband to the late Margaret E. Wilson (Mullen), passed away quietly at home on November 20 with his daughters by his side. Born November 30, 1930 in Providence, Rhode Island to Vernon K. and Elizabeth Wilson (Colburn). Keith was raised in Maine and graduated from Deering High School, Harvard College and Harvard University Law School. He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1952-56, notably serving as an embedded intelligence officer with Carrier Air Antisubmarine Squadron 27. Subsequent to active duty, he remained in the Naval Reserves until his retirement in 1981, having attained the rank of Commander.
Keith's career was in banking. He was Vice President in the Trust Department of Maine National Bank from 1959 to 1986 and then he was with Merrill Bank and Gorham Savings Bank until 1993 when he retired.
In addition to his military and work life he served on many charitable and civic committees including the boards of the American Cancer Society of Maine and Cheverus High School. In retirement, Keith and Meg moved to New Milford, Connecticut where he continued his civic work serving on the Economic Development Commission and the board of Glen Ayre senior housing. In Maine and Connecticut, Keith was an active Rotarian and was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1994.
Along with his late wife, Keith loved to travel, going on adventures all over the world including a few memorable trips to Eastern Europe in the 1980s that he cherished. One highlight of the last few years was when he saw his beloved classic 1951 Jaguar entered at Bonhams Greenwich Concours d'Elegance.
Keith is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Godin, son-in-law Timothy Godin, grandsons Ian and J. Quinn of Yardley, PA; daughter Kathryn M. Wilson of Norwalk, CT and daughter Emily D. Wilson of Norwalk, CT; his sister Elizabeth Willwerth of South Portland, ME; and a large extended family.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 27, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 28, at St. Ladislaus Church, 25 Cliff Street, Norwalk. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Mullen Family Foundation, care of the Rhode Island Foundation, One Union Station, Providence RI 02903.
