HAMBIDGE, Sr., ALFRED
Alfred A. Hambidge, Sr., 88, of Danbury, beloved husband of the late Marylee (Kisley) Hambidge, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 14, 2014.
Al was born in Danbury, son of the late George and Florence (Peck) Hambidge. He attended the former Balmforth Avenue School and graduated from Danbury High School, class of 1944. He entered the US Army and served during WWII, where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. A stonemason by trade, he used his skills to build the former Ridge Motel in Danbury, which he and Lee operated for several years. He later worked as a mason at the former Fairfield Hills State Hospital prior to retirement. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Post #60 in Danbury.
He is survived by his son Alfred A. Hambidge, Jr. and wife Maryann of New Milford, his daughter Nancy Golden and husband Stephen of Gaylordsville, three grandchildren: Amy, Drew and Abby Hambidge, and his sister and brothers: Mildred Godfrey, George Hambidge Jr., Richard Hambidge and wife Edith, and Everett Hambidge and wife Geraldine, all of Danbury, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Vivian and brother Donald.
Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, on Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Connecticut Caregiver Connection and Regional Hospice.
