Charles Bruno Obituary

On Christmas Day, with his children by his side, Charles Edward Bruno, of Danbury, traded the earth for a more peaceful place. Charles was born on November 20, 1931 in Brewster, NY to Emma Bereniece Makenny and Anthony Dominic Bruno. He graduated from Brewster High School in 1949, excelling in both academics and athletics. Upon graduation Charles attended Hobart College and later entered the workforce as a lineman with New York State Electric and Gas Corporation. Thereafter, he embarked on a career with the Danbury Savings and Loan Association. Beginning as a teller, Charles ascended through the ranks and at the age of 37 assumed the position of President, where he served for more than two decades. Although Charlie had many professional accomplishments he will most notably be remembered by those closest to him for the quiet generosity he exhibited throughout his life. His infinite love and devotion will be forever present in the minds and hearts of his children and grandchildren. Charlie made his second home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts where he enjoyed the outdoors, reading, the New England Patriots, and his dog, Angel. He is survived by six children: John E. Bruno and wife Diana, of Brookfield, Karen Bruno-Roos and husband David, of Danbury, Regina Bruno, of Ohio, Jeffrey Bruno and wife Jennifer, of Bethel, Lynn Bruno and Christopher Bruno and wife Diane all of Danbury, as well as ten grandchildren: Luigi, Jamie, Michael, Meghan, Lauren, Natalie, Caroline, Mallory, Charles and Carlie and his longtime companion Joann Spence, of Ridgefield. Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

To the Bruno Family,

My deepest condolences. I worked for your dad in Danbury Savings & Loan back in 1975. He always walked through the bank and said hello to every employee no matter the level. Always a gentleman to everyone. Rest in Peace Mr. Bruno.

To the Bruno Family - Our sympathy to you all on the passing of your dad, our cousin. Although it has been many years since we last met, we have fond memories of your dad. He used to stay at our house when your grandparents visited Winsted when he was young. He is in our prayers. Ray, Joe and Carol Vincent.

To my dear friend Karen, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. Some of my fondest memories are time spent with you and your family. Your Dad always made me feel like part of the family and when I was teased and called 'too tall Jones', he came to my rescue, quickly adjusting it to the 'just right jones' nickname that I will cherish forever. I will never forget our trips to Candlewood Lake, the Cape in the Toronado, dinner with your family at that little French restaurant and so many wonderful times at your home in Brewster. I'm so thankful to have shared in your Father's life and that he and Joann were a part of my wedding day. He will always hold a special place in my heart. My sincerest condolences to you, John, Regina, Jeff, Christopher and Lynn. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Dear Bruno Family,
Our deepest sympathy to you all. What an honor it is to have known and worked for your Dad and grandfather. He was a great man and did so much for so many. I worked at DSL and became his secretary, working for him right up till his move to the Cape. He was wonderful to work for and a very kind and considerate man, whom I respected and admired deeply. He has given us so many fond memories and we will never forget him, as he has always held a special place in my heart.

May all your wonderful memories help to comfort you each and every day.

Rest In Peace Mr. Bruno...
Love, Joe & Helen Tomanic

Dear Bruno Family:

I began my banking career when your Dad just became President of DSL. What a great place to learn and work. There are many of us who are still together today as friends because of the team your Dad put together.

RIP Mr Bruno....

To the Bruno Family,

I am sorry to hear about your dad. Although I don't work at the Village anymore, I often think of your dad. I giggle everytime I think of all the times he called me Liz and thought for sure that was my name. Your family now has an angel watching over you. RIP Charlie

Dear Bruno Family,
I was sorry to read the news about your Dad. I can remember when your Dad, new that a few of us ladies were going to the cape. And he told us that we could use his boat for a day. We were so excited. We had a great time. Of course we were a little nerous driving the boat and to make sure he got the boat back in one piece. I still have pictures of us on that boat. He was a thoughtful person.
My sympathy to you all.
Peace,

To the Bruno family,
I was so sorry to hear the sad news. As Tom Malone's note says, Mr. Bruno was always kind and friendly to the friends of his children. It brings back memories of those long-ago days in the Starr Ridge/Friendly Rd neighborhood -- and the occasional trip to Yankee Stadium, courtesy of Mr. Bruno. That was always fun (even if it was the Yankees!) Thanks Mr. Bruno. Rest in peace. And my condolences to John, Jeff, Karen, Regina, Chris & Lynn.
Sincerely,

Anne & Mark Massoud

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
