Charles Seitz Obituary

Charles J. Seitz Charles J. Seitz, age 93, beloved husband of Dolores "Val" (Storck) Seitz, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009. He was born in 1915 in Houston, Texas, the only child of the late Charles W. and Elizabeth (Walther) Seitz. Charles graduated from Canton McKinley High School in 1933 and attended Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. During high school, he started working at the local W.T. Grant store as a stockroom boy and continued to work for Grants until 1975. At the time of his retirement from Grants, he was Merchandise Development Vice President and, concurrently, President of GIS International Merchandising Corp (a Grant subsidiary). While at Grants, he made presentations before Senate sub-committees to make children's sleepwear non-flammable and before the Federal Trade Commission to ensure accurate product labeling. Following his career at Grants, he continued to work as a management recruiter/consultant at Inside Management Associates. Charles served in Europe during World War II with the 808th Tank Destroyer Battalion in Patton's Third Army where he was a Bronze Star recipient. The 808th was part of the group of U.S. soldiers that liberated Ohrdruf, the first Nazi concentration camp to be liberated by the Allies. Charles was honorably discharged as a Major in October 1945. On his return from the war, Charles rejoined W.T. Grants and met and married Val in 1948. They moved to Greenwich in 1954 where they made their home until 2006 when they moved to Duncaster in Bloomfield. Besides his wife, he leaves his four children (two sets of twins), Charles W. Seitz II and his wife, Lynn of New Fairfield and their children, Evan (and his wife, Diana) and Megan; Dean H. Seitz and his wife, Margaret of Hampton, Va. and their children, Sarah (and her husband Ensign John Joyce) and First Lieutenant Charles M.; Scott Seitz of Vail, Colo.; and Sandol and her husband, Richard Allen of Glastonbury and their children, Kristi and Chad. He also leaves two great-grandchildren, Mc-Kenzie and Jacqualin Seitz. A Memorial Service will be held at Duncaster, 40 Loeffler Road, Bloomfield Saturday, June 20 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
