Debra Fairclough Obituary

Debra "Deb, Debbie" (Carlson) Fairclough, 52, resident of New Milford, passed away on Saturday September 18, 2010 in her home and surrounded by her family after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born March, 12, 1958, in Norwalk. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Fairclough of New Milford; her daughters: Alison L. (Fairclough) Baur and husband Gerald E. Baur, Jr of New Milford; Amanda L. Fairclough and longtime partner Carmine Iapaluccio III of Danbury; Aimee L. Fairclough of Boston, Mass.; her only son, Robert L. Fairclough of New Milford; her granddaughter, Ashleigh K. Fairclough of New Milford; her parents George Carlson and Arline (Weber) Carlson of Plant City, Florida; her brother, Christopher Carlson and longtime partner Connie Devine of Hampstead, North Carolina; and many brother- and sister -in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her faithful canine companion, Peanut, who brought her comfort throughout her illness. Debbie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, partner, and best friend to so many. Debbie married Robert L. Fairclough on August 28, 1977, in Danbury. Together they raised their four children, managed a plumbing and heating business, and maintained two homes. Debbie loved spending time at their second home in Island Pond, Vermont and had planned to live out her elder years there with her husband. She was an avid and talented gardener, spending many joyful hours tending to her gardens at her New Milford home. Debbie loved to read, often devouring books the same day she received them. She was a wonderful cook and as a chocolate lover, made the best chocolate mayonnaise cake ever. She passed so many valuable skills on to her children but also taught them how to be strong, self-reliant, and compassionate. Debbie was predeceased by her niece, Karla Christine Fairclough (September 25, 1995); her brother-in-law, Scott Fairclough (August 15, 2010); her maternal and paternal grandparents as well as aunts and uncles on both sides. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 344 Kent Road, New Milford, from 2 to 6 p.m. She will be interred at Central Cemetery, Brookfield at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairclough Family, P.O. Box 3, New Milford, CT. Donations will be distributed for the benefit of her minor son, Robert; the New Milford Hospital Cancer Center, and the Visiting Nurse Association of New Milford. Debbie and her family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Debra Brant and the Oncology department, parking valets, social workers, and volunteers of the New Milford Cancer Center who took excellent care of her during her illness as well as the New Milford Visiting Nurse Association who offered their love and support during her final days. Debbie cared for every person that entered her home and treated all like they were family. She was much loved and will be deeply missed.

I Last saw Debbie at her home approx around may of 09. At that time she was well. Time since has taken me out of New Milford. I am truly sorry for the loss of a very precious life. Debbie had always made me feel warm and welcome, whether in her home or wherever I ran into her. She was just one of those people that had a glow and radiance about her. And although I did not see her often I will miss her very much. I lost my own mother to Cancer and have a sister just diagnosed with Breast Cancer, so I am no stranger to the Damn C word. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with your entire family. Be strong and just hold her close in your hearts as she is always with you. Each and everyday she will always be with you. With much love and sympathy, Bethany "Buffy" Swett, Pete and Haley Cote
