Donald Hansen Obituary

Donald E. Hansen, 86, of Brookfield, husband of the late Muriel (Hammonds) Hansen, died at Danbury Hospital on Sunday, October 3rd. He was born in Waterbury on January 9, 1924, son of the late Edward M. and Lillian (Westburg) Hansen. Mr. Hansen received his BS in Electrical Engineering from M.I.T. He worked as an electrical engineer for Branson-Sonic and Mosler Safe Co., both in Danbury where he held numerous patents. He was a Veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the United States Army Air Force where he was a fighter pilot flying the P-47. He enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, camping and playing croquet. He was a creative builder, working on many projects around his home. He was also an avid reader, and in later years, enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his two sons, Karl E. Hansen and his wife, Oyuma of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and David A. Hansen of Danbury; his daughter, Kathy J. Sercel and her husband, Jeffrey of Hollis, NH; his special friend and companion, Betty Johnson of New Milford; and his five grandchildren, Dana, Amy, and Laura Sercel, Lisa and Anna Hansen. He is also survived by his brother, Alan M. Hansen of Pleasant Ridge, MI; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Thursday, October 7th at 11:00 am. Cremation will take place at the direction of the family. Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home at 10:15am. Please make a donation to your favorite charity in his name in lieu of flowers. Don was a great friend and co-worker for 50 years.We enjoyed many times playing horseshoes and Frisbee during our working years,and continued our friendship afterward. He will be sorely missed.
