Elizabeth "Liz" A. Disbrow (nee Dockery) of Danbury, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 4th. Born in on March 26, 1936 in Brooklyn and raised in White Plains, she spent the majority of her adult life in Rye, NY, Brookfield and Danbury. During her final days, she was continually surrounded by her loving, supportive family and dear friends.
Liz graduated from Good Counsel Academy in White Plains and Columbia Presbyterian University with a degree in nursing. She spent the majority of her career as a registered nurse, specializing in both geriatric and psychiatric care, at St Vincent's Hospital as well as performing private duty and VNA services in NY, CT and Maryland. Although officially retired, Liz founded the Parish Nurse Program at St Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield.
Liz will be most remembered as a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. An avid bridge and card player, Liz was known for her sense of humor and kindness as well as for being feisty. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Liz is survived by her three daughters, Sharon (Robert) Chapderlane of Rye, NY, Mary Elizabeth (David) Lancaster of Dover NH, Catherine Disbrow of Jacksonville, FL: her two sons Richard (Nancy) Disbrow, Southbury, CT and William (Christine) of Rye: her ten grandchild who affectionately called her G'Ma and Gram-Gram. Liz is survived by her six siblings: Mary, Martin, Eileen, Emmitt, Una and John.
She was predeceased by Richard, her loving husband of 43 years, her parents Martin and Katherine Dockery and her son-in-law Lt. Stephen Brown, USN
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 9th, 10:30 am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Brookfield. Burial will be at the direction of the family at a later date.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 8th from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810.
In lieu of flowers, memorial Contributions in her memory may be made to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, 282 Washington St., Hartford CT, 06106, Attn: Foundation.
