Elizabeth Hance Obituary

Elizabeth M. Hance, age 78, of Ridge-field, formerly of Floral Park, NY and Trumbull, died peacefully on Sunday, January 9th, 2011 with her family by her side. Born on July 2, 1932 in Franklin Square, NY, the daughter of Valentine and Blanche. Elizabeth was a devoted wife, loving mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, wonderful cook, baker and caring listener; ever-present for those who needed her. Elizabeth's family was her life and devotion. She is survived by her husband Gerard and five children, Patricia Roche (John), Mark Hance (Adrienne), of Ridge-field, Michael Hance, Paul Hance (Betsy), of Atlanta and James Hance (Maureen), of Trumbull; 12 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Elizabeth grew up in Franklin Square on Long Island and attended Sewanhaka High School after which she met her husband, "Jerry". They were married in 1955, lived in Floral Park until 1978, then moved to Trumbull. The couple has been married for 55 years and has resided in Ridgefield, CT since 1996. Liz was a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters of America (CDA) & Rosary Altar Society She had an active role in the Trumbull Republican Town Committee for several years, and was a Town of Trumbull Selectman. She also served as Vice President of the Connecticut chapter of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 15th at 10:15am in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7to 9p.m.. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
