(1925-2012) Eunice Rasmussen Berglund, 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on January 19, 2012. She was the beloved wife of Harold R. Berglund. A lifelong resident of Newtown, CT, Eunice was born in Botsford on April 17,1925 to the late George and Mayla (Botsford) Rasmussen. She graduated from Hawley High School in 1943. During her school years she was a member of the Girl Scouts, cheerleading squad, glee club, and Young People's Club. She also played on the basketball team and enjoyed dance school. Eunice attended the Elm City Beauty Academy in New Haven, CT and was employed at the Beauty Salon of Newtown following her graduation. Eunice's hobbies and interests included knitting, piano playing, bowling and following the UConn men's and women's basketball teams. The seashore was her favorite place to vacation. She and her husband, Bergie, enjoyed the times they spent at their second residence in the Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Eunice's greatest joys and proudest roles were that of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Besides her husband of 64 years, she is survived and will be remembered daily by her three children: daughter Jo-Ann Wigglesworth and her husband Mark of Goshen, CT; daughter Bonnie McLean and her husband George of Gaylordsville, CT; son Ricky Berglund and his wife Gail of Goshen, CT. She will also be remembered by her brother Harvey and his wife Leota Rasmussen of Newtown and her sister-in-law Fansion Juenemmann of Colorado. She will always be missed and loved by her 7 grandchildren: Dayla and Morgan Wigglesworth and Breann Beardslee of Goshen, Scott and Tyler McLean of Gaylordsville, Sarah Berglund of Washington DC, and William Berglund and his wife Lisa of East Greenbush, NY, her great grandson, Cole Berglund and her numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and William Kamas of Newtown, and her brother, Carl Rasmussen of Colorado. A memorial service will be held on February 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at The Stepney Baptist Church, 423 Main Street, Monroe, CT. (for directions visit www.stepneybaptist.org/).
