Gary Charles Barrett, age 69 of Danbury, formerly Bethel, passed away after a long illness on Monday, July 23, 2012 at Danbury Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Danbury, October 8, 1942, son of the late John W. and Anna V. (Lathrop) Barrett. Gary grew up in Georgetown and later moved to Bethel, graduating Bethel High School in 1960. He served in the US Air Force in Alamogordo, New Mexico from 1962 to 1966. Gary married Nadia Puiatti in 1964 and had 2 sons, Alan and Gregory. He worked for many years as a warehouse manager and later he entered into commercial security before retiring in 2005. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Yankees and sharing many good times with friends and family throughout his life. In addition to his devoted wife Nadia, he is survived by his youngest son: Greg, his partner Suzanne and their daughter Shayleigh. His 2 granddaughters Justine and Jillian of Kansas survive Gary from his son Alan, who predeceased him in 2009. In addition he was predeceased by his brother Alan and beloved granddaughter Greanna. Gary is also survived by his sister: Carol Maxfield and her husband Dennis and their 2 sons, as well as multiple cousins, nieces and nephews. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Bethel, Friday morning at 10:00. Gary will be cremated and his ashes will be retained by the family. The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Thursday evening from 6:00 to 9:00. Flowers will be provided by the immediate family and kept to a minimum. Therefore, they ask that in lieu of additional flowers, contributions be made to the Bethel High School ROTC Booster Club, 300 Whittlesey Drive, Bethel, CT 06801.
