Giuseppe Ongaro

Giuseppe "Joe" Ongaro, age 83, died Sunday, April 10 after a long illness. He was the husband of Anna Ongaro. Mr. Ongaro was born July 7, 1927 in Bergamo, Italy, the son of the late Bernardo and Linda Ongaro. He was a professional soccer player for well over a decade in Italy and France. After which, he moved to the U.S. and worked in the construction field for many years with Morganti, Inc. He lived in Danbury and was a member of the Amerigo Vespucci Lodge. He retired to Heritage Village in Southbury and then resided at Masonicare of Newtown. Besides his wife of 49 years, he leaves two children, Mara Ongaro Gustafson and her husband, David of South-bury, Mauro Ongaro and his wife, Ligia of Danbury; and five grandchildren. Also, he leaves a brother, Tony and his wife Elena Ongaro of Danbury and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, April 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, April 14th at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. South, Southbury.
