Harry Ramey Obituary

Harry J. Ramey of Danbury, passed away at his home on September 29, 2010 with his wife of 64 years, Frances, at his side. Harry was born on November 4, 1922 in Lawrence, Mass., a son of the late Kater and Sultana (Hassey) Ramey. He graduated from Danbury High School in 1940 and was a veteran of World War II having served with the 112th AAA Battalion in Northern Africa and Southern France from 1943 to 1946. His unit was awarded the Croix de Guerre. During World War II, the seven sons of the Ramey family all served their country during the conflict. Prior to his retirement, Harry worked for the Southern New England Telephone Company for 35 years and was a past Trustee of St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church. He became an avid golfer in retirement and was able to share his love for the game with his children and grandchildren for many years. Harry was also a member of the Richter Park Senior Golf Club. Harry was predeceased by his brothers, Mitchell, Joseph, Phillip, Henry and sisters, Mabel Haddad and Lavina Tomer. He leaves behind his devoted wife Frances (Donise) Ramey; two sons, Dennis and Wayne; daughters-in-law, Michelle and Joanne; grandchildren, Darryl, Christopher, Michael and Stephen; brothers, Namen N. Ramey and Namen J. Ramey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A very special thank you to Drs. Ira Galin, John Pezzimenti, Michael Cohenuram (and all their staff) and daughter-in-law, Joanne not only for their healing powers, but also for their friendship and support to Harry over the past years. Because of you, he was given the will to enjoy life's journey. The Liturgy of the Resurrection will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2010 in St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave, Danbury, (today), Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m. (www.jowdykanefuneralhome.com) In lieu of flowers, donations in honor and memory of Harry may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, Home Care Program, 405 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810. I, as well as mom and my brothers and sister, were saddened to hear of Harry's passing. When I went to mass at St. Anthony's, I looked forward to seeing Harry and Frances. Always a smile and a chance to reminice. He will be missed by many.
