Shannon, Jane D..
Jane D. Shannon 78, of Bethel CT and her beloved husband of 53 years William P.(Bill) Shannon both died as a result of an automobile accident on January 28, 2014.
Jane was born in Easton PA, on January 15, 1936 to the late Gerald J. and Marjorie (Doyle) Devlin. Jane grew up in Phillipsburg, NJ where she graduated from St. Phillip & St. James High School in 1953.
Jane graduated from Georgian Court College in 1957 and received her Master's Degree in Education from Western CT State University in 1972.
Jane met the love of her life William P. Shannon in 1959 and they married September 3, 1960.
Jane taught at St. Mary School in Bethel for over 10 years before being appointed the Bethel Town Clerk in 1984, a position which she loved and cherished until 1995.
Jane was a cantor and lector at St. Mary Church for many years, and also was an administrator of St. Mary Church Cemetery and served on many boards and commissions for both St. Mary Parish and the Town of Bethel.
Jane took great pride in playing the lead role in the St. Mary School production of "Mame" in 1974. She was a proud Democrat, an avid reader and a dedicated NY Yankee Fan.
Jane loved being a wife and mother but especially loved being a grandmother to her 5 beloved grandsons.
Jane is survived by her son William P. Shannon Jr. and his wife Carolsue of Southbury, Marjorie J. Shannon of Danbury and Patricia A. Cafero and her husband William of Randolph, NJ, along with her 5 grandsons E.J. Shannon, Jack Shannon, Christopher Cafero, Michael Cafero and Matthew Cafero.
Jane is also survived by her brother G. Joseph Devlin (Carol) of Phillipsburg, N.J and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday February 3, 2014 from 3:00 to 8:00pm at Saint Mary Church, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 11:00am at Saint Mary Church with burial following at St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in Jane's name to St. Mary School, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel, CT 06801.
