John J. Murray, 82, of Bethel, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at Danbury Hospital, on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Born in New York City, John was the oldest son of the late Michael and Margaret Murray. His brother Patrick predeceased him.
John graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx and attended St. John's University, Queens, New York. He was a veteran of the Korean war. In 1960, he married Marilyn Klamm of Yonkers, New York. Married for 53 years, together John and Marilyn were the cornerstone for their four children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. John was a longtime parishioner of the Church of St. Mary in Bethel, and before that Christ the King Church in Yonkers.
He worked at Union Carbide for 15 years and retired from the IBM Corporation following 25 years of service including a two-year assignment in England as a systems analyst.
In addition to his wife, Marilyn, John is survived by his children: Anne Marie Corbalis and husband James, of Brewster; Lauren Ravo and husband John, of Bethel; James Murray and wife Kim, of Brookfield; and dearest Kathleen whom he joins in Heaven. His grandchildren are Matthew, Michael, Thomas, and Zachary Prahach; Douglas and Alexa Corbalis; Brittany, Melanie and Courtney Ravo; and Kristen and James Murray, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Bethel, on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Church of Saint Mary, Bethel, Ct.
