Fogarty, Margaret A.
Margaret A. Fogarty, 78, of New Milford, CT, passed away peacefully at New Milford Hospital in the presence of her loving family on June 20, 2014.
She was born in New Milford on December 25, 1935, the daughter of the late Everett F. Fogarty, Sr. and Katherine K. Fogarty.
She was a graduate of New Milford High School, class of 1953 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven. Graduate studies were pursued at Fordham University and she received her Master's degree in Math from the University of New Hampshire.
A lifelong teacher she taught math at Laurelton Hall in Milford, CT, the University of New Hampshire, Westfield State College in Westfield, MA and Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.
In her retirement and as a cancer survivor, she became a weekly volunteer at the New Milford Hospital Cancer Center for over ten years. The staff and patients at the Center became her second family.
Margaret was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister for ten years. She also was a supporter of Our Lady of the Lakes parish in New Milford.
Margaret is survived by her brothers, Thomas and Everett and Everett's wife Elaine. She is also survived by her niece Dr. Colleen Fogarty and her husband Jeffrey Sciortino and their children Aidan, Leo and Rita; her nephew Kevin Fogarty and his wife Diana Lim and their children, Nolan and Noelle; and her niece Sharon Trafton and her husband Tom and their children Sophie, Huck, and Jasper.
The family would like to thank her doctors and the staff at the New Milford Cancer Center and New Milford Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 10 AM at St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford
Friends may call on Sunday, June 22, from 5 to 8 PM at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, Ct.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the New Milford Hospital Cancer Center or St. Francis Xavier Church.
