Maggie you touched me so deeply during my time at "the Institute". I will always remember riding with you in the van and your exuberant laughter. She really helped me understand how to release negative energy and bring out the good in others. I cultivating my love of writing because of you. Love you and miss you!

Mrs.Hooton was earth shoe sandals, boiled wool sweaters, a cluttered desk but most certainly an open mind, her hands talked as fast as her mouth, funny, kind hearted, unpredictable and so much more. She inspired the "inner souls" of not only her students but everyone she knew. My depest sympathy to Art Hooton.

My sympathies are extended to you Mr Hooten. Your wife taught one of my favorite classes where I could write all my thoughts in the " source book" that I still have and treasure. She inspired me to go for what I wanted including running on the boys track team when the girls team did not exist yet and run in road races wehn few women were running them in Danbury. It was great to see her at the finish lines. She allowed each person in her class to be as unique as they wanted to be, just as she was uniquely special to many of us. She was a hoot and will be missed. I hope there are teachers out there to inspire my son the way she inspired me to create with a pen and paper. May she rest in Peace or in her case Run on Forever.

maggie was a good person. i used to work with her in wva. she was great at what she did and she did not hestitate to stand up for herself or others. i gave her a bunch of blue glass canning jars once. she also turned me on to these old tercel station wagons. the last time i saw her was at the harpers ferry craft festival about ten years ago.

Dear Art, David and I were stunned when we saw Maggie's obit in the N-T! We have just spent our dinner and beyond reminiscing about not only the two of you at DHS but the truly unforgettable time we spent looking for and finding you first home in W.V. She's leaving a big hole behind. As ever, Ingrid & David

My sincere condolences to you, Mr. Hooten. I was so saddened to hear of Mrs. Hooten's death. She was one of my favorite teachers at Danbury High School. She encouraged me to "think outside the box" before that was even popular, and encouraged my love of writing and reading. I will never forget her.....I still have my "source book" that we used in her creative writing class. I will miss her....rest in peace Mrs. Hooten.

Ms. Hooton made a footprint on my heart the day I met her. She was by far, the most impressionable creative writing teacher!! I can still hear her telling me to put my writing "in the fridge" to cool off. I often think of her, as I have continued my writing through the years.
Rest in Peace Ms. Hooton, the next one I write is for you!

Condolences to Art, we lost a good one. Maggie would have us accentuate the positive, and we are very fortunate and gifted to have trod the Earth in the same era as this wonderful person.

Mrs Hooten was my favorite teacher at DHS. She fostered my love of writing and encouraged me to look deeper inside of myself when writing. I still have my journal, which she had the class keep to write in daily. She also further inspired my desire to be a teacher. I was inspired by her love of life and her enthusiasm for sharing it with her students. She was an amazing woman, one I am fortunate to have as a teacher. Mr. Hooten, I am deeply sorry for your loss.

As a teacher myself, I often find myself trying to emulate Mrs. Hooton. She was an inspiration to her students. I can still picture her taking her daily run no matter what the weather. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Hooton.

Every time I see an owl or read good verse, she comes to mind.
Rest in Peace Ms. Hooton.
