Noah Weinshel Obituary

Noah Weinshel, CPA of Yonkers, N.Y., died September 26, 2010. Noah was born in the Bronx on May 1, 1924 to Harry Weinshelbaum and Sarah (nee Siegarman). He graduated from Morris High School and the City College of New York in 1943 with a business bachelor of arts (BBA). He registered for the draft at 18, enlisted in 1942, and was called up for the U.S. army aviation cadet training on March 27, 1943. He served as a navigator-radar bombardier in the 6th Bomb Group, 20th Airforce on crew #4005 (B29) on 35 missions (521 combat hours). This crew flew the longest combat mission of that time, bombing Rashin, Korea. He was recalled during the Korean War. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal (with cluster) and theater ribbons. He married Marcia Stambler, his beloved beautiful, intelligent wife on August 15, 1948 with whom he raised three wonderful children, the medical doctors, Elizabeth, David and Sarah. They enjoyed 62 years of wedded bliss and the joys and efforts involved in educating three hard- working children who evolved into dedicated caring professionals. They were fortunate enough to see them married to loving, caring spouses, Joel Goldfarb MD, Gloria (Schmidt) and Preston Lurie MD. Noah was blessed with two grandchildren, Adam and Nina Lurie in whom he delighted. He had many good friends and neighbors, some of whom predeceased him. He was a devoted Yankee fan. He established the Dr. Joseph B. and Lillian Stiefel Foundation through which he and Marcia contributed to many worthy charitable causes. He was active in the NYS society of CPA's (Westchester Chapter), the 6th Bomb Group Society, the DFC Society and the Jewish War Veterans. He is survived by his wife Marcia, their three children and his two sisters, Mildred and Hannah, a host of friends and relatives, as well as his beloved cat, Simon. Donations in his memory may be made to The Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut or to The Jewish War Veteran Post #68, Yonkers NY.
